Kenneth P. Arena passed away peacefully January 24th surrounded by those who loved him. He was formerly of West Boylston, Massachusetts and Ogunquit, Maine. Ken was born in Worcester to the late Mary (Volungis) and Michael Arena and grew up on Grafton Hill. He graduated with a BA and Master's degree from Worcester State College and was a Special Investigator II/Operations Manager for the Massachusetts Department of Revenue for over 30 years. He earned the Governor's Pride in Performance Award several times during his accomplished career. In his retirement he turned to a new passion and taught Adult ESL for the Worcester Public Schools. He also served his community as an elected member of the West Boylston Housing Authority Board and youth sports coach. Ken enjoyed following all of the local teams and took particular pleasure in attending games with his family and needling Yankee fans about the Red Sox's recent run of success. He was an avid self-taught carpenter and his hobby was constantly improving and expanding his two homes. He was also devoted to and selflessly cared for a number of relatives and friends throughout his life. However, his true passion was spending time with his family especially in Ogunquit, Maine, where he was most happy. Ken, known for his love of family, was a wonderful husband, incredible father, and doting grandfather. He leaves behind his wife Frances E. Arena of West Boylston, MA; son Jeffrey K. Arena; daughter-in-law Laura L. Arena; granddaughter Audrey Lee, the true treasure of his life, all of Winchester, MA; his faithful dog Sadie; and many loyal family members and friends. He is also survived by siblings, Robert Arena and Karen Johnson. All who knew him will miss his incredible sense of humor, sly grin, and unique outlook on life. Adhering to Ken's wishes the family held a private service celebrating his rewarding life. For those wishing to honor Ken, contributions may be made to the Pediatric Oncology Fund at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in his memory. The Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, was honored to assist the family with arrangements.
