Helen E. (Atkocius) Lorentzen, 97, of Boylston, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2015, at Lanessa Extended Care Center in Webster. Her husband, Fred P. Lorentzen, predeceased her in June 1995. Helen is survived by her loving daughters, Sandra E. Simmons and her husband Dan of Glastonbury, CT, and Diane L. Howard and her husband Paul of Dudley; two brothers, Donald Atkocius of Rockville, MD, and Albert Atkocius of Auburn and Florida; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by two brothers, Vitty and Eddie Atkocius. She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late, Casimir and Elena (Rajeckas) Atkocius, and lived in Worcester for many years, before settling in Boylston in the early 1950's. She was a member of Saint Mary of The Hills Church. She loved sewing, and flowers. She had been an active participant of County Extension, the church Women's Guild, The Boylston PTA and Boylston Seniors. She was a wonderful woman, who cherished her family and enjoyed watching her family grow with each additional grandchildren and great grandchild. Calling hours for Helen will be held on Friday morning, January 23, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, followed by a procession to Saint Mary of The Hills Church, 620 Cross Street in Boylston, where Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Boylston. Flowers may be sent or donations may be made to The Boylston Fire Department, 599 Main Street, Boylston, MA 01505.
