Leona (Pilat) Golubowski, 86, of Worcester passed away Saturday, January 17, 2015 with her beloved daughters and family gathered by her side after a brief period of declining health. Born in Worcester, Leona was the daughter of Polish immigrants Stanley and Nora (Glovinski) Pilat. She grew up in the Island section of Worcester, and then graduated from Commerce High School. Leona was then extremely proud to earn her degree from Salter Secretarial School. She married the love of her life, Walter A. Golubowski and spent the next 63 years happily married before Walter passed away this past May. Leona after graduating from the Salter School used her education in many offices in the area before accepting a position with the Thom McCan Company where she worked for over 29 years before retiring. Leona is survived by the daughters she loved so much and who in turn loved her, Nancy L. Golubowski and Wendy A. Wolanski and her husband Daniel; the joys of her life, her granddaughters Amanda L., Alisha M., and Arianna L. Wolanski; Many adored nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A brother, Frederick Pilat, two sisters Helen and Wanda Pilat, as well as two older step siblings Emil Smith, and Olga Babinski all pre deceased her. Leona was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, the Polish American Veterans Women's Auxiliary and the Teamsters Union Local 170. Leona was a volunteer and past president of the Quinsigamond Mother's Club. A Girl Scout Brownie and Girl Scout troop leader for many years. All her community activity proved Leona to be devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren. Their growth, success and happiness were her focus. Being with them were her life's most treasured moments. Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours, Wednesday, January 21st from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Her funeral will be held Thursday, January 22nd from the funeral home with a procession to Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward Street, where her Celebration of Life funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am.
