Anthony R. "Tony" Martone, 80 of Uxbridge, formerly of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the St. Francis Home surrounded by his loving family. Anthony is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-seven years, Barbara A. (Perrone) Martone; his son, Michael A. Martone and his wife Michelle of Uxbridge; his brother, Ernest Martone and his wife Mary Grace of Worcester; five sisters, Marilyn Kanerva and her husband Ronald of West Boylston, Marie Ovian and her husband Richard of Florida, Loretta Sclafani and her husband Accurzio, Sandra Penny and her husband Robert all of Worcester, Debra Martone of Dudley and a brother-in-law , Dennis Leonard of Millbury; six beloved grandchildren, Kerrianne, Gianna and Anthony Gabriella, Maximus, Macen and Mazzy Martone; four great grandchildren, Alana, Kyra, Jayla and Jordan; numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his daughter, Cheryl (Martone) Gabriella; a brother, John Martone and a sister, June Leonard. Anthony was born in Worcester, a son of the late Nicholas and Rose (Tortorino) Martone and has lived here all his life until he moved to Uxbridge 2 years ago. He graduated from Worcester Vocational Technical High School. Anthony served his country during the Korean War for the United States Army. Anthony was the owner and operator as well as a graphic design artist for G.A. Advertising for many years. He previously was a carpenter. He was a member of Our Lady of Loreto Church and the Northbridge Senior Center Pool League where he was known as a fantastic pool player. He enjoyed sketching, vacationing to Old Orchard Beach, Maine with his family and watching the Red Sox. Anthony's greatest pride in life was his grandchildren. The Martone family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Christopher Seidler, Rose Benvenuti and the entire team at Harrington Hospital Cancer Center for the exceptional care they gave him during his period of illness. Services for Anthony will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2015 from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester with his funeral mass at 12:00 noon in Our Lady of Loreto Church, 37 Massasoit Rd., Worcester. Burial will follow in Saint John's Cemetery, Worcester. A period of calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2015 from 9-11 a.m. in the funeral home prior to his funeral mass.
