Domenic D. Mercurio,89 of Worcester died peacefully Monday evening December 29, 2014 in the UMASS Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. His wife Helen C. (Perrone) Mercurio, predeceased him. He was also predeceased by a son Michael D. Mercurio and a daughter Mary M. (Mercurio) Barnett. Domenic is survived by two sons John J. Mercurio and his wife Robin (O'Connor) Mercurio of Worcester, and Domenic D. Mercurio Jr. and his wife Sandra (DiGregorio) Mercurio of Sturbridge. Dom also leaves his loving grandchildren, Tiffany Salo, Rebecca (Mercurio) Ploof and her husband Scott, Rachael Mercurio, Daniel Mercurio, Michael Mercurio Jr. and Joseph and Fabio Mercurio. He also leaves two great grandchildren Marissa and Elizabeth O'Neil, and his son in law James Barnett. Dom also has many nephews, including Louis Mercurio of Sterling, and nieces and extended family members in California, and Georgia, among them a nephew Danny Mercurio and his wife Gay of Atlanta and great nieces Judith Mercurio- Heddon, and Linda Mercurio Ruetter. He also had a brother Vito and a sister Gloria. Domenic was born in Worcester son of the Late Michele and Lucia (Errede) Mercurio and lived here most of his life. He was a graduate of the Worcester Vocational Trade School. Domenic was a Navy Veteran of WWII serving as a ship Signalman. Upon returning home he married Helen and started his wonderful family. In his early years he was a truck driver for various companies, but soon afterwards started working for Commonwealth Gas Company as a salesman, a position he really enjoyed and loved helping his customers. In 1967 he and Helen bought a summer home in Seabrook N. H. and loved spending time at the beach with their family. Domenic was a skilled mechanic and enjoyed reading his newspaper. He enjoyed doing carpentry. He also enjoyed dancing, however his most treasured times where those spent with his children and grandchildren. He loved telling them about his trips to the Memorials at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Domenic was a long time member of the Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann and was also a Grand Knight in the Pope John XX111 Council, and also a lifetime honorary member of the Bishop O'Reilly Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. Domenic s Funeral service will be held privately with a Mass of Christian burial in Our Lady of Mt Carmel- St Ann Church 24 Mulberry St. Interment will be private in St. Johns Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann Church Renovation Fund.
