Alan G. Jarvela, 62, of Gardner, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 20, 2014, in Heywood Hospital in Gardner. Alan is survived by his wife of thirty-seven years, Bonita M. (Slavinskas) Jarvela; a brother, Richard Jarvela and his wife Pam of Palm Bay, FL; a sister, Nancy Trembly and her husband Joe of Toccoo, GA; two sisters in law, Diane Desroches of Leicester and Susan Sheridan and her husband Phil of Norton; a brother in law, Daniel Slavinskas and his wife Deborah of Worcester; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Charles Jarvela. He was born in Gardner, son of the late, Eino and Marion (Perry) Jarvela, and has lived there all his life. Alan worked in customer service for over forty years at Tyco-Grinnell Company, formerly Simplex Corp., before retiring. He enjoyed anything that had to do with trains; he collected model trains, and enjoyed trips with his wife, Bonita to The Station Inn in Cresson, Pennsylvania, where they literally slept along-side the rail way. Alan was a kind and gentle man, who went out of his way to help anyone in need. He especially loved the family pets, particularly the cats. Calling hours for Alan will be held on Saturday morning, December 27, from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. in Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, followed by a funeral procession to Saint John's Church, 44 Temple Street, in Worcester, where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m.; the Reverend Father Jonathan Slavinskas, presiding.
