Agnes (Jurukian) Melkonian, 84, of Worcester passed away peacefully Thursday, December 18th 2014 with the family she loved gathered at her bedside. Agnes was born in Pawtucket Rhode Island, a daughter of Armenian immigrants Bagdasar and Aghavni (Abdalian) Gurukian. She grew up and lived in Rhode Island, until 1952 when she married the love of her life for the next 35 years, Jacob M. Melkonian. Together they returned to Worcester to live and raise their family. She has lived here ever since. Agnes worked for over 25 years for the Big D, Wonder Market as a bookkeeper before retiring and becoming part of the family business with her son David at New England Glass. Agnes is survived by her devoted children, David C. Melkonian and his wife Mary Ann and Sandra J. Melkonian all of Worcester; her six grandchildren, Melissa Lizewski, Katelyn Russell, Lisa, David J. "DJ", Melanee and Michael Melkonian; eight great grandchildren; Many nieces, nephews extended family and friends. Agnes's husband Jacob passed away in 1987, her son Kevin M. Melkonian passed away in 2006 and her sister Mary J. Johnson also pre deceased her. Agnes was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church, and its ladies guild. She worked the voting polls for the city of Worcester many years. Agnes was all about family. Her children and grandchildren were the most important inspirations in her life. Her greatest memories were spent being with them at special occasions, family gatherings and holidays. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Sunday, December 21st from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Her funeral will be held Monday, December 22rdfrom the funeral home with a procession to her church, Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church, 635 Grove Street where her service will be celebrated at 11:00 am. The Very Reverend Sahag Razmik Yemishian will officiate. Burial next to her husband and son will follow in Hope Cemetery. Very Reverend Sahag and Reverend Vasken Bekiarian will conduct a Dangark service Sunday evening at 6 pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances in her name can be made to the Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church, 635 Grove Street
