Verbetine "Vert" V. (Dixon) Jones, 71, of Worcester, passed away on Friday, December 12, 2014, in Beaumont of Worcester. Her loving husband, Henry Jones, Jr., predeceased her in August 1975. Vert is survived by two sons, Terry D. Jones and his wife LaVera of Glen Burnie, MD, and Eric T. Jones of Raleigh, NC; five daughters, Lisa M. Jones of Raleigh, Tongia S. Jones, Pearl L. Jones, and Bernadette A. Jones all of Worcester, and Crystal V. Jones-Davis and her husband Elton of Syracuse; a brother, Earnest Dixon and his wife Bernice of Gates, NC; eleven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Howard Gore. She was born in Little River, South Carolina, daughter of the late, Lewis and Pearl Gore. Verbetine loved her family and she found great joy in spending time and sharing love, especially with her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, traveling, and playing BINGO. The family would like to thank the staff of the Beaumont, Golden Living and 2 Lakeside ICU at UMass for their care and compassion during Vert's illness. Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 19, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., with a Funeral Service at 4 p.m., all occurring in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Interment at Hope Cemetery will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 10 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
