Joan I. (Kniskern) Bastardo,69, of Worcester died peacefully Wednesday December 10, 2014 in the Rose Monahan Residence surrounded by her loving family. Her Husband of 45 years Worcester Firefighter Bernard Bastardo died in 2011. Joan is survived by her loving Children; a daughter Geralynn M. D'Elia and her husband John, and son Matthew C. Bastardo all of Worcester. Joan was the doting grandmother to Aimee, Anthony, and Megan D'Elia, and Dominic, and Sophia Bastardo, she was enjoying her great granddaughter Nariah Lynn D'Elia. Joan also leaves her loving sisters Cheryl A. Robidoux, and Laurie L. DeBrusk and her husband Michael both of Leicester, and many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by a sister Carol Halloran. Joan was born in Worcester daughter of the late Walter and Irene (Cote) Kniskern and lived here and also in Millbury for several years before returning to Worcester She was a graduate of South High School. Joan was an Accountant for the TJMax Company for many years before she retired. Joan was a long time member of the Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann. She loved being with her family, especially the grandchildren. She and Bernie loved to travel and made many trips to Florida. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Kern Bayard and his staff, and everyone at the Fairlawn Rehabilitation Center and her Pulmonary Therapist Oren Schaefer who was such a great help physically and emotionally to Joan. And of course the staff at the Rose Monahan Residence, and Joan's sisters who were also a blessing for the family. Thank you for all your Love and support. Joan's funeral will be held on Monday from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. with a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00AM in the Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann 24 Mulberry St. Visiting hours with the family will be held on Sunday from 3PM to 6PM in the funeral home. Private Inurnment will be with her husband in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton at a later date. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Church of Our Lady of Mt.
