John P. Lazar, 74, of Boylston died peacefully Monday, December 8, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family. He leaves his devoted wife of forty-nine years, Cynthia M. (Farrar) Lazar, two daughters Julayne M. Lazar of West Newton, and Karlyn A. Scott and her husband Douglas of Hopkinton. John was the doting grandfather to Rowan L. Scott, Devon J. Scott, Elana M. Kosmas, and Maggie D. Carrier. John is also survived by a sister Constance L. Athanas and her husband Michael of Grafton and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary C. Morgan. John was born in Boston, son of the late Steven and Angelina (Duni) Lazar. He grew up in Worcester, graduated from South High School, attended Worcester Junior College, and served his country in the United States Army, National Guard. He resided in Boylston since 1968. John worked as a wholesale foodservice sales representative for forty years until his retirement from U.S. Foodservice. John was a long-standing member of Saint Mary's Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church where he was a multi-term president of the Sons of St. Mary's. He was also active in the Boylston Lion's Club, serving as King Lion for many terms. He treasured time spent with family and enjoyed caring for his home and beautifying his yard with perennial gardens. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Calling hours for John, will be held on Sunday, December 14, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. His Funeral will be held on Monday, December 15, from the funeral home with Funeral Liturgy at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Mary's Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church, 535 Salisbury Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Boylston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of John Lazar to fund Cardiac Amyloidosis Research on behalf of Dr. Jeffrey Shih, Heart Failure Program, UMass Memorial Medical Center. Checks should be made payable to UMMF and mailed to UMass Medicine Development Office, 333 South Street, Shrewsbury, MA 01545, Attn: Rebecca Kurland.
