Vincent J. Gianfriddo, Sr., 92 of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 1, 2014 surrounded by his family. Vincent's wife of 62 years, Louise C. (Russo) Gianfriddo passed away on January 14, 2005. He is survived by four sons, Vincent, J. Gianfriddo, Jr. of North Brookfield, Francis Gianfriddo and his wife Sandy of Warren, Sal J. Gianfriddo and his wife Dori of West Brookfield and Michael A. Gianfriddo and his wife Stacey of Hubbardston; two brothers, Frank I. Gianfriddo of Quincy, Illinois and Leo Gianfriddo of Dearborn Heights, MI; a sister, Lena Palermo of California; 19 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his daughter, Laura M. Chase who passed away in 2007; a brother, Paul Gianfriddo. Vincent was born in Worcester, a son of the late Salvatore and Loretta (Caradonna) Gianfriddo. He graduated from Commerce High School and has lived here all his life. Starting as a messenger at Western Union, Vincent worked himself up through the company to include positions at the former Union Station, including a Morse key operator and later a teletype operator while company deferred during World War II. Vincent was the office manager during the tornado that devastated Worcester and during the flood which hit 2 years later, and of several offices in New England mostly Massachusetts and New Hampshire. He worked the press rooms of many functions from Holy Cross football games to Adelaide Stevenson's Presidential run, a troubleshooter auditing various offices in New England, and major account representative and district manager. He retired after 54 years as supervisor of Government Services. Vincent was a lifetime communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel-St. Ann Parish. He served as the churches lector, a Eucharistic minister and an acolyte of the parish. He was also a past president of its Holy Name Society. Vincent was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a lifetime member of the Pope John XXIII council, a lifetime member of Bishop O'Reilly Assembly 4th degree, a past member of the Masters Staff, and he former district deputy of the Massachusetts State Council. Services for Vincent will be held on Friday, December 5, 2014 from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel-St. Ann Parish, 24 Mulberry St., Worcester. Burial alongside his wife and daughter will follow at Saint John's Cemetery, Worcester. A period of calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 4th from 4-8 p.m. in the funeral home.
