Charles K. Abdelnour a lifelong Worcester resident passed away unexpectedly Friday, November 28th 2014 after being stricken ill at home. He was 98. Charles was born in Worcester, a son of Syrian-Lebanese Immigrants; Melhem A. and Nezlie (Honnessy) Abdelnour. He graduated from Commerce High School, earned his Bachelor's Degree in Education from the College of the Holy Cross class of 1949, and his Master's Degree from Worcester State College. Charles then accepted a position as a teacher for the City of Worcester School Department where he educated young children, many years before retiring as Assistant Principal of Rice Square School; he was beloved and highly respected by his students throughout the years. He has lived in Worcester all his life. Charles is survived by the love of his life of the past 58 years, Alice (Baroud) Abdelnour; a son, Bruce Haffty and his wife Kathleen of Somerset, NJ; three grandchildren, Lauren Lussier and her husband Robert, Sarah Sanderson and her husband Chris, and Brian Costello; two great grandchildren; Genevieve and Matthew Lussier; many nieces, nephews and friends. The sole survivor of six children, Charles was pre deceased by three brothers, Underwood Abdelnour who was killed in action in WWII, Colonel Victor Delnore USARMY (ret), & Edward Abdelnour, and two sisters, Victoria Stevens and Najla Esper. Charles was a quiet, respectful and simple gentleman, who loved his family, the gifts of life he was given and his good health right up to the day of his passing. He was an active member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. He loved the Red Sox, Traveling with his wife, and Horse Racing. Charles will always be known for his love and care of the entire neighborhood animal population. He could normally be seen feeding the birds, dogs, cats and all living things he encountered. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 1st at 11:00 am in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 256 Hamilton St. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. A period of calling hours will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, from 9:30 am until the time of the service Monday, December 1st.
