Michael J Martinelli, 86, of Webster, formerly of Worcester passed away peacefully at home Saturday, November 22, 2014 with his family by his side. Michael was born one of eighteen children in the Italian rich Shrewsbury Street neighborhood of Worcester, a son of Louis and Anna (DePari) Martinelli of Italy. He joined the U.S. Army, serving his country proudly during the Korean War. Upon his return he married Estelle M. Jette spending the next 60 years happily married raising their family. Besides his wife Estelle; Michael is survived by his three daughters, Jean Saxe with whom he lived, Rosemarie Guzman and her husband Thomas C. of Worcester, Judith Lessard and her husband James of Dudley; a sister, Katherine Duca of Worcester; six grandchildren he adored, Jessica, Michael, Nicholas, Tricia, Cassandra and Brett; seven great grandchildren; Many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Eleven brothers and five sisters, predeceased him. Michael worked many years for the diocese of Worcester at St John's Cemetery before retiring in 1990. He was an avid New York Yankee fan and all things associated with the Yankees. A truly devoted hardworking, family man, Michael cherished watching his children and grandchildren grow and play sports. Family gatherings and holidays were very important to him and something he would never miss. Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours Tuesday, November 25th from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral will be held Wednesday, November 26th from the funeral home with a procession to St Mary's Church, 640 Main Street Shrewsbury where his Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in St John Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Central Mass Hospice, 191 Pakachoag St, Auburn 01501. The Martinelli family would like to thank Central Mass Hospice for the loving, care and compassion they gave to Dad during a difficult time.
