Yolanda "Vi" (Catino) Lombardi

April 1, 1922 — November 20, 2014

Yolanda "Vi" M. (Catino) Lombardi, 92, died peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, Nov. 20 in her home in Boylston. Vi is survived by her husband of 67 years, Dominic M. Lombardi of Boylston; her four children, Robert D. Lombardi of Boylston, Janet L. Lombardi of Boylston, Richard M., and his wife Julia A. Lombardi of Marlboro; Kenneth, and his wife Melanie A. Lombardi of Boylston; her sister, Millie Ann DeLoriea of Oxford; seven grandchildren; Alana, Lauren, Joseph, Nicholas, Michael, Christina and Analisa; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by eight brothers: Joseph, Francesco, John, Michael, Lando, William, Victor, and Anthony Catino; and one sister, Jeanette Tunstall. Vi was born in Worcester, a daughter of the late Joseph and Lucy (Ciccone) Catino and lived here most her life before moving to Boylston to live with her children. She was employed by the former Parker Mfg. of Worcester. Previously, she worked at Norton Co. of Worcester and Raytheon in Sudbury. Following her retirement, she was a loving nanny to families in Worcester and Southboro. Yolanda was a true matriarch of the Lombardi and Catino families, hosting all holidays, events, and family festivals at her home in Worcester and later Boylston. She traveled frequently with her husband and children to the Jersey Shore, Florida, Myrtle Beach, Western United States, and Montreal to visit relatives and her many friends. She and her husband had weekend card games with the same couples every weekend for more than 50 years. Her grandchildren made frequent pilgrimages to see their grandparents and to sample her Italian cooking, especially her meatballs and pizza, which were legendary. Yolanda was affectionately called "Vi" short for Violet, the literal translation of the word Yolanda. She was a member of Mount Carmel Parish in Worcester. Vi opened her home and her heart to everyone she met. She will be deeply missed and cherished forever. Yolanda's funeral will be held Tuesday from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. with a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00AM in the Church of St. Mary of the Hills 630 Cross St. Boylston.
