Eli G. Mitchell, 80 of Charlton passed away at home, Saturday, November 1st surrounded by family. Eli was born in Worcester, a son of Syrian parents George and Mary (Mackoul) Mitchell. He graduated from Commerce High School, and lived in Worcester most of his life before moving to Charlton 10 years ago. Eli worked for many years as a machinist, union shop steward, and staff labor representative for the Rex Chain belt company, later Rexnord Company. When the plant closed, Eli served as the employee worker assistance manager for displaced and laid off workers. Upon this position completion Eli was appointed to the staff of the united steelworkers of America AFL_CIO-CLC for district one serving union locals in Worcester County, New Hampshire and Vermont before retiring. Eli is survived by the love of his life and partner for the past 58 years, Annette K. (LeBlanc) Mitchell; four children, Russell G. Mitchell and his wife Michelle of Charlton, Diana L. Frankian and her husband David of Worcester, Kelley J. Derosier and her husband Walter Derosier III, Robert E. Mitchell and his wife Lisa; two brothers, Nicholas G. Mitchell of West Boylston and Michael G. Mitchell of Worcester; fourteen grandchildren; a great granddaughter; many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Eli was a member of Saint George Orthodox cathedral, the Syrian Lebanese men's club and United Steelworkers union. A dedicated family man he cherished watching his grandchildren play sports and the holidays and special occasions he could have his entire family around him. Eli enjoyed watching sports, and the annual family vacations to Old Orchard Beach. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 4th at 11:00 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Reverend Milad Selim will officiate. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Monday, November 3rd from 4 to 7 pm in the funeral home.
