Anthony M. Gagliastre of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 31, 2014 in UMass Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Anthony is survived by his devoted wife of thirty-three years, Cynthia L. (Binnall) Gagliastre; his son, Ryan A. Gagliastre of Boston; his sister, Bernadette (Iacovone) Ostromecki of Worcester; a niece, Michele DiLiddo and her son Frankie both of Worcester; two nephews, Michael Ostromecki and his wife Cindy of California and David Ostromecki and his wife Melissa and their children Matthew and Ben all of Shrewsbury. He also leaves his very special cousin, Virginia (Gagliastre) Sklarz and her husband Stanley of Oxford. Anthony was born in Worcester, the son of the late Rose (Gagliastre) Iacovone and graduated from Worcester Boys Trade. Tony joined the union in 1953 and worked as a carpenter, a carpenter foreman and then as a Superintendent for Granger Construction, R.W. Granger and Granger Brothers retiring in 2007. After retirement, he continued in the field as a Clerk of the Works, acting as the eyes and ears of the owner, to be sure buildings were put up to specification. Tony held a Massachusetts State Building License as well as a Boston Building License. Tony was a member of the Carpenters Union, Local # 107. Tony could fix anything and would do so for whoever needed something built or fixed. He loved to work and putter in the garden. He worked well with his hands and loved to watch sports. Tony was a gentle soul with a kind heart. His greatest pleasure was time spent with his wife Cindy and the apple of his eye, His son Ryan. He will be greatly missed! Services for Tony will be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester with a Mass at 10 am in St. Stephen's Church, 357 Grafton St., Worcester. Burial will follow in Saint John's Cemetery, Worcester. A period of calling hours will be held on Monday, November 3rd from 5-8 pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations in honor of Tony be made to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
