Robert Samuel Reno, 85, a lifelong resident of Worcester, peacefully departed to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, October 27, 2014. Robert was born in Worcester, on November 5, 1928 to Italian immigrants Santo and Rose (Scola) Reno. He deferred graduation from St. John's High School to enlist in the U.S. Marine Corps and served four years in both World War II and The Korean Conflict before being honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal to then graduate from Commerce High School. As a young man, Bob worked as a cobbler with his brother-in-law, as a machinist making ball bearings with the Heald Machine Company and then joined the Worcester Police Department where he served on the force as a Patrolman for over 30 years before retiring in 1989. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Police Officers Union 911 and the Police Relief Association. Bob was a fine and humble man who will be fondly remembered for his dedication, first and foremost to his family. He was inseparable from his devoted wife and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his many grandchildren whether making fried dough, preparing his annual Christmas Eve feast, hosting monthly pizza parties or playing on the beach when at the family home in Eastham on Cape Cod. Bob is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lucia (Melucci) Reno; sons, Robert J. Reno and his wife Susan of Dudley, Steven J. Reno and his wife Lillian of Ocoee, Florida and John M. Reno and his wife Lorie of Houston, Texas. Grampy, as he was affectionately referred, boasts eight grandchildren; Robert, Kim Reno-Ly (Cam), Michael (Krystal), Amy, Heather, Jennifer, Stephanie, Chandler, and three great grandchildren, Viviana, Vincent and Landon. Bob is also survived by his sister Rita Maruca of Springfield, and predeceased by sisters, Mary Reno, Anna Rocco, Carmela Bafaro, Emily Falcone, Pauline Reno and brothers, Frank, Joseph and Raymond Reno. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family on Friday, October 31st from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 1st at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, 24 Mulberry St. Burial with full military honors will follow at St. John Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Restoration Fund.
