Glady "Gladys" Sanchez, 51 of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at home surrounded by her beloved family after a long battle with cancer. Glady is survived by her husband Maximo Vargas; her son, Elisander Rivera, Jr. of Worcester; her mother, Zenaida Calderon; four brothers, Jesus Sanchez, Jr. of Puerto Rico, Luis A. Sanchez of New Jersey, Carlos M. and Edward Sanchez both of Worcester; two sisters, Ruth and Evelyn Mateo both of Worcester; many nieces and nephews including Juan L. Mateo, Jr., Eli J. Mateo and Tirsa B. Perez all of Worcester. Glady was born in Silver Creek, New York, a daughter of the late Jesus Sanchez, Sr. She lived in New York for a short period of time and later moved to Puerto Rico where she graduated from Luis Hernize Veronne High School. She has lived in Worcester for over 20 years. Gladys worked as an instructional assistant for Canterbury Elementary School for 12 years. She also worked as a daycare provider at the Y.W.C.A in Worcester for the past 10 years. Gladys was a devoted member of Iglesia Apostolica Cristiana de Bethsaida Oasis de Restauracion where she was the director of the church's children's department and organized many events for the church. Glady will forever be remembered as a happy outgoing person by her family and friends. A period of calling hours will be held on Sunday, September 28, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester with a prayer service at 6 p.m. Glady's funeral service will be held on Monday, September 29th at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home.
