Dr. John L. Bianchi, 93 of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 22, 2014 at Southgate Assisted Living surrounded by his loving family. John's longtime companion, Kay Delaney passed away in 1991. He is survived by two sons, Alden J. Bianchi and his wife Mary E. Kett of Boston and John L. Bianchi, Jr. and his wife Germain Bianchi of Millbury; and two grandchildren, Alden Bianchi, II of Connecticut and Gabrielle Bianchi of Millbury. He is predeceased by four brothers, Alden, Joseph, Charles and Francis Bianchi; a sister, Irene Bianchi. John was born in Worcester, a son of the late Carlo V. and Louisa G. (Bianchi) Bianchi. He graduated from North High School and had lived in Worcester for many years before moving to Shrewsbury where he lived for the past 40 years. John graduated from Harvard College and Tufts University Medical School. John worked as an orthopedic surgeon for various local hospitals for thirty four years retiring in 1989. He also was an adjunct professor of orthopedic surgery for UMass Medical School. John served his country during WWII in the United States Army. He was a former member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and a member of Mount Pleasant Country Club. He enjoyed golfing, model ship building, reading, going to the theater and museums, music and was an avid pianist. John's funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at 10 a.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. A period of calling hours will be held on Wednesday, September 24th from 4-7 p.m. in the funeral home.
