Mary J Eriksson, 81 of Holden passed away peacefully with family by her bedside, joining her husband Bengt Eriksson who passed away several years ago, Wednesday September 3rd 2014. Mary was born in Worcester, one of twelve children of Michael and Grace (Abatantuono) DeSalvio. She grew up in Shrewsbury graduated from Shrewsbury High School. Mary then furthered her education by earning an associate's degree, bachelor's degree, and two master's degrees. She has lived in Shrewsbury, Worcester, Sweden and Holden. Mary served many years as executive assistant to the President of Quinsigamond Community College before retiring in 2005. Mary is survived by her stepson, Lennart Eriksson in Sweden; a brother George DeSalvio in South Carolina; a sister, Joanne Sherman of Cherry Valley; Many nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends who loved her dearly. Mary was a member of the Holden Senior Center, and the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. She was an avid traveler, who with her husband visited many countries around the world. Her passion was cooking, and found enjoyment preparing meals for relatives and friends. Funeral services and burial were private. Memorial remembrances in her name can be made to The Quinsigamond Community College Foundation, West Boylston Street, Worcester Mass. The MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. is honored to assist the family with arrangements.
