Vera (Stavrinou) Donas, 78, of Worcester and Athens, Greece, passed away with her family at her side Friday, August 29th, 2014. Vera was born in Samos, Greece, the oldest of three children of Stavros and Stella Starvrinou. She grew up in Athens, Greece before immigrating with her family to the United States in 1974. Vera worked alongside her husband John for many years in their business "John the Tailor" in Framingham before retiring and then shared her time between Athens and Worcester. Vera's husband of 41 years, John Donas passed away in 1999. She is survived by her two sons, Fotis "Frank" Donas and his wife Suzanne of Worcester, Steve Donas and his wife Jennifer of Shrewsbury; two grandchildren whom she adored, Christina and John Donas; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends both in the U.S. and Greece. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of St. Vincent Hospital, especially Dr. Suzanne Martin, Dr. Claudiu Salvan, and Dr. Iryna Chastain, as well as to the staff at Lutheran Home for the exceptional care and love they provided during her brief illness. Calling hours will be Tuesday, September 2nd from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. The funeral will be held Wednesday, September 3rd from the funeral home with a service at 10:00 am in St. Spyridon Cathedral, 102 Russell St. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances in Vera's name can be made to St. Spyridon Orthodox Cathedral. Father Dean N. Paleologos will celebrate a Trisagion service on Tuesday night during calling hours at the funeral home.
