P. Matthew "Matt" Amorello, Sr. 56, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 11th surrounded by his loving family. He fought a courageous battle with esophageal cancer after being diagnosed in Dec 2012. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Linda DiTullio and their beloved son Paul M. Amorello, Jr. , a brother Thomas P. Amorello and his wife Jennifer of West Harwich, two sisters, Lynda Amorello and her husband Armand Yazejian, and Karen Noonan both of Florida, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and many cousins. He was predeceased by his parents William D. and Rita (Abbruzzese) Amorello and two brothers William D. Amorello Jr. and Robert J. Amorello. Matt was a graduate of St John's High School and Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston where he received his degree in civil engineering. He was employed as a bridge inspector for twenty seven years for the Mass DOT. He was a longtime member of the Brown Square Civic Club. Matt was unique. He touched people in a certain way. He never met anyone he didn't like. He loved being with people especially family and friends. He cherished time spent with them whether in Worcester, the Cape or South Florida. He always said thank you for visiting me". He was easy to know and never forgotten. He loved the New England sport teams, especially the Red Sox and Patriots. He would plan his day around their schedule, invite friends and extended family members to his home to watch the game and enjoy the meal he made especially for the occasion. He was an avid ticket scratcher'. Matt and his family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Brigham and Women's Hospital and UMass. Matt's funeral will be held on Saturday August 16, from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St.with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00AM in the Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann 24 Mulberry St. Visiting hours with the family will be from 4:00PM to 8:00PM on Friday. Interment will be in St. Johns Cemetery.
