Doris Emma (Dion) Racine, 87, of Worcester, passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2014, surrounded by her loving family at Notre Dame Long Term Care Center. She was predeceased by her husband of fifty-eight years, Paul A. Racine, in May 2010. Doris is survived by their children, Marie Ziobro and her husband Stephen of Baltimore, MD, William Racine of Baltimore, MD, Thomas Racine and his wife Claudette of Charlton, MA, Michelle Baker and her husband Rev. Dr. Kevin Baker of Glenwood, MD, and Paul Racine, Jr. and his wife Cyndi of Indian Head, MD; thirteen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a brother, Richard Dion and his wife Carmen of North Grafton; two sisters, Sr. Mary (Beatrice) S.P. of Holyoke and Claire Racine and her husband Richard of South Yarmouth, MA; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother and four sisters, Rev. Fr. Louis F. Dion, Irene Gignilliat, Lucille Osborne, Sr. Theresa Dion SSA, and Jeanne Gallagher. Doris was born in Worcester, daughter of the late, Ferdinand and Cora (Birtz) Dion. She graduated from Worcester High School of Commerce and from Saint Vincent Hospital School of Nursing. She lived in the Worcester area for many years, before relocating with her husband and children to Oxon Hill, MD, returning here several years ago. While in Oxon Hill, Doris was and active member of Saint Columba Church, where she served on the Bereavement Committee, Eucharistic Ministry and RCIA. She also served on the Prayer Shawl Ministry at Jesus the Good Shepherd in Owens, MD. She enjoyed spending time with her sister, Bea at Rehoboth Beach and all of the Dion Family reunions and family gatherings. Services in Worcester and in Maryland Calling Hours for Doris will be held on Thursday, July31, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Her Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 1, from the funeral home with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Holy Family Church (Saint Joseph) 35 Hamilton Street, Worcester. Maryland Services will consist of Calling hours on Sunday, August 3, from 5 p.m. to 8.m. in the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD 21037. Interment, beside her husband, will be on Monday, August 4, at 11:30 a.m. in Crownsville Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Fr. Louis F. Dion Scholarship Fund, Assumption College, 500 Salisbury Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
