Dante J. Mazzari, 91, of Westborough, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2014, in Beaumont Rehabilitation Center in Westborough. His wife of thirty-four years, Mary E. "Betty" (Kelahear) Mazzari, pre-deceased him in August 1988. Dan was born in Shrewsbury, son of the late Louis and Elena Mazzari. He is survived by two sons, Louis W. Mazzari, of Istanbul, Turkey, and Joseph L. Mazzari, of Eliot, Maine; two grandchildren, Dante and William; a sister, Alda Sivret; and a nephew, David Sivret, of Seattle, Washington. He was pre-deceased by a brother and a sister, Joseph and Irida Mazzari. He served the nation proudly in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II as an artillery instructor. Dan worked for years in the hotel and hospitality industry, in Boston, Miami, and Orlando, including twenty-two years with Sheraton Corporation, from which he retired as Vice President of Operations. He had previously worked for the Hotel Corporation of America. In the early 1960s, as general manager of the Charterhouse Motor Hotel in Lynn, Dan worked closely with the newly organized Boston Patriots of the fledgling American Football League, an association that led to a lifelong devotion. At Shrewsbury High School, Dan was a student athlete, who lettered in baseball and football. After graduation, he was coxswain of a men's crew team on Lake Quinsigamond and continued playing amateur sports for many years. A graveside service for Dante will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, August 2, 2014, in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury, Section G.
