Mary E. Tanacea

April 22, 1930 — July 14, 2014

Mary E. (Symock) Tanacea, 84 of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 14, 2014 at UMASS Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Mary's husband of nine years, Vanghel Tanacea passed away in 1961. She is survived by her two beloved daughters, Elaine D. Killick of Worcester and Ann Marie Clem and her husband Robert of Charlton; her brother, George Symock and his wife Catherine of Shrewsbury; three grandchildren, Matthew Clem and his fiancé Ashley Cassenelli and her daughter Emmy of North Brookfield, Michael Clem and his fiancé Jaclyn DiChiara of Peabody and Elodie Killick of Worcester; three nephews, Michael Symock and his wife Kim of Douglas, David Symock and his wife Angela and their children Kosmo and Victoria, and Joseph Symock of New Hampshire. She is predeceased by two brothers, Nicholas and Vasil Symock. Mary was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Kosmo and Victoria (Dimetro) Symock and has lived here all her life. She worked for the housekeeping department at Saint Vincent's Hospital for twenty years. Mary was a devoted member of Saint Nicholas Orthodox Church in Shrewsbury. Mary was an amazing and devoted mother and grandmother who loved to spend time with her family and friends. She will forever be remembered for her wonderful smile. Mary's funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 34 Gold Street, Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in West Thompson Cemetery, Thompson, CT. A period of calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 16th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester and again on Thursday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. in church prior to the service. A Trisagion service will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 16th at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to: St. Nicholas Orthodox Church Building Fund, 34 Gold Street, Shrewsbury, MA. 01545.
