Madeleine M. (Chamberland) Etre, 87, a fifty year resident of Shrewsbury passed away Sunday July 13th 2014 in her home. Madeleine leaves behind her loving husband of 66 years, Albert Paul Etre, with whom she shared a million laughs, smiles, hugs, and many family adventures. She leaves her 8 children Robert F. Etre and his wife Gayle of N. Fort Myers, FL, Albert P. Etre Jr. and his wife Elizabeth, Suzanne L. Etre Gauvin and her husband Paul, Richard P. Etre and his wife Jan all of Worcester, Ronald J. Etre and his wife Kathleen of Grafton, Stephen A. Etre and his wife Katherine of Santa Fe, NM, James M. Etre of Albuquerque, NM, and Matthew J. Etre and his wife Karen of London, England. Madeleine was privileged to have 21 adored grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and her sister Irene Chamberland Savage Schollard. She was predeceased by her parents; Rosilda (Beaudette) and Joseph "Alfie" Chamberland, her siblings, Rachael Chamberlain Kennedy, her husband John F. Kennedy, Roland Chamberlain, his wife Beatrice Monette Chamberlain, Jeanne Chamberlain Dixon and her husband Robert. Madeleine attended Our Lady of the Elms College through the Cadet Nursing Corp, earning her R.N. degree in Nursing from St. Vincent Hospital in 1948. Madeleine worked alongside her husband in the family businesses, A.P. Etre Builders and EPA Realty Company, running the office, and maintaining the books until retiring. Madeleine was a devoted member of St. Anne's Church. She was also a member of the St. Vincent Hospital Alumni Association from 1948 to the present, and the Worcester Diocesan Council of Catholic Nurses from 1948 to 2012. Madeleine enjoyed many family gatherings, especially the family trips to Walt Disney World, Italy, and the Mediterranean cruise that the 53 family members took together. The Etre family would like to thank Dr. Richard N. Orino, Dr. David S. Shepro, Michelle Proos N.P., the VNA Hospice Team, especially Giselle, Sandy, and Reverend Sheila for the care, compassion and comfort they gave to our mother during a difficult time. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family during calling hours, Thursday July 17th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation ST, Worcester. Her funeral will be celebrated Friday, July 18th from the funeral home, with a procession to St Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike RD, where her Mass will be held at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, 260 Cambridge St, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances in her name can be made to St. John's High School Etre Family Scholarship Fund, 378 Main Street, Shrewsbury ,or St. John's Food for the Poor Program, 44 Temple Street , Worcester Mass.
