OBITUARY On February 22, 1926 a candle was lit for Sarah Alice Smith and it burned brightly for 88 years and on June 17, 2014 her flame extinguished and God reached down, declared Sarah the winner, and took her to an everlasting reward. Sarah was born in Greensboro, Alabama, daughter of the late Louis Smith and Fannie R. (Waller) Lewis. At an early age Sarah gave her life to Christ. She moved to South Falls, New York where she lived for over 60 years, prior to moving to Worcester to be with her family and due to her declining health. She loved people and touched them in so many different ways. She loved being surrounded by family and friends. To her family was everything and now she will be an angel looking down on us. She enjoyed playing bingo and cooking and baking for her church, family and friends. Sarah was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of South Fallsburg, NY and most recently a member of John Street Baptist Church in Worcester. Her memory will be cherished by her son, Charlie K. Hoskins of South Fallsburg, New York, a daughter, Sarah L. Days of Atmore, Alabama; two sisters, Ethel Garrett of Auburn, MA and Melvanie Rox of Alabama; five brothers, Johnny, Rufus, Robert, Perry, Truman Lewis all of Alabama; twenty seven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, caregivers and friends. She is preceded in death by her three sons, James, Aaron and Freeman Jackson; her three sisters, Luvenia Mays, Sadie L. Booker and Willie Mae Lewis. Her funeral will be celebrated on Friday, June 27, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the John Street Baptist Church, 43 John Street, Worcester, MA. Visitation will be held prior to the services from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow to Hope Cemetery in Worcester.
