Vincent T. Mezynski, 87, of Worcester, passed away on Friday, May 30 in the Lutheran Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center. Vincent's beloved wife, Stella, passed away in 2008. He is survived by his devoted children, Linda Gustafson and her husband Waino of Worcester, Gary Mezynski and his wife Rosemary of Burlington, MA , and James Mezynski of Caribou, Maine; five grandchildren, Daniel Gustafson, Sara Gustafson, Laura Enos, Lillian Mezynski, and Catherine Mezynski; and by many nieces and nephews. Vincent was born in Worcester, a son of Frank and Sophie Mezynski. Vincent delayed his graduation from high school in order to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the end of the war, he returned to high school, Worcester Boy's Trade, to study auto mechanics and to graduate. He worked as an auto mechanic for some years at Good Year before becoming a custodian for the School Dept. of the City of Worcester, where he worked until his retirement. As a young man, Vincent enjoyed participating in a bowling league. He was a long-time member of the Retired State, County, and Municipal Employees Association of Mass. He enjoyed gardening and sharing what he grew with his family and friends. Above all, Vincent was devoted to his family. He was a gentle man who delighted in making people smile and laugh. Calling hours for Vincent will take place on Mon., June 9 from 9:00-10:30 AM at Mercadante Funeral Home and Chapel, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. A funeral Mass for Vincent will take place at 11:00 AM on Mon., June 9 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1290 Grafton Street, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Vincent's name to the Alzheimer's Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472, (617) 868-6718.
