Rose A. (Perna) Mercadante, 89, longtime resident of West Boylston passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 27th 2014 with her family gathered by her side. Rose was born in Shrewsbury, one of five children of Italian immigrants Nicholas and Maria (Giofredda) Perna. She grew up in Shrewsbury, met and in 1948 married Victor R. Mercadante. In 1952, they moved into a new development in West Boylston to raise their family and she enjoyed the next 62 years there. Rose's husband of 38 years, Victor passed away in 1986. She is survived by her devoted family, her daughter Janet Eagan and her husband David, her son Victor R. Mercadante and his longtime companion Karen Brunner all of West Boylston; two grandchildren, David Eagan Jr. and his wife Kelly, Dawn Marie O'Connor and her husband Stephen; six great grandchildren, Riley Rose-Mary, David III, twins Ryan and Kyle, Kayleigh and Devon; Many nieces and nephews, including her Godchild Elaine Vincequere, extended family and friends. A brother, Michael Perna and three sisters, Antoinette Messina, Margaret Mattero, and Josephine Kalagher all pre deceased her. Rose was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. A former member of its Women's Guild. Rose was an exceptional cook, especially her Italian cookies. She enjoyed travel and senior bus trips. Rose's life centered around her family, her husband, children and grandchildren were the focus of her life. The special moments, celebrations and Holidays together were what made Rose the proudest. Rose's funeral will be held Tuesday, June 3rd from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a Mass at 10:30 am in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 100 Worcester St. Burial next to her husband Victor will follow in Mt Vernon Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family from 8:30 am to 10:00 am Tuesday at the funeral home prior to leaving for church.
