Joseph Lucien "Frenchie" Lachance, 88, of Worcester passed away peacefully Friday, May 23rd 2014 with family gathered by his bedside. Joe was born in Worcester, a son of the late Firmin and Juliette (David) Lachance. He grew up in Sherbrooke Canada, returning to Worcester around 1942, where he taught himself to read and write. In 1949, Joe met the women who became his devoted wife and partner for the next 65 years, Jane V. (Benoit) Lachance. The settled in the North Lake Ave neighborhood of Worcester to raise their family and have lived there ever since. Joe is survived by his wife, Jane; his four children, Denis Lachance and his wife Carol of Wareham, Nancy Sposato and her husband Donald, Brenda Young and her husband Gary, Sheila Sposato and her husband John all of Worcester; a brother Lawrence "Larry" Lachance; eleven grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. A son, Bruce Allen Lachance died at infancy, two sisters, Georgette Barbato, and Collette Dupris and a brother, Arthur Lachance all pre deceased him. Joe was a former member of Notre Dame Church. A member of the Teamsters Local 170, the Order of Eagles, the Italian American Post 3 VFW and the Worcester County Deputy Sheriffs Association. Joseph was a jack of all trades that could repair anything. He took great pride in remodeling his entire home over the years once he bought it. Joe was very sociable, who loved a good conversation. He enjoyed Deep Sea Fishing, and the former Westboro Speedway. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family during calling hours Monday, May 26th from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St, followed by a prayer service. Burial in the family lots in Southbridge will be private.
