It is with much sadness that we announce the unexpected loss on May 18, 2014 of our dear father Gaetano at 91 years old, only six days after our beloved mother Mary (Marchese) Corio passed away. "Guy" is survived by his devoted daughters Cheryl Monopoli, and Denyse Corio both of Worcester, and Debra Gauvin and her husband Robert of Dudley. He was the dear grandfather to Shelley, Christina, Michael, and Grace, and great grandfather to Chrystyanna.and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by three brothers Henry, Joseph and Anthony Corio, also a sister Adeline Iaconi. Gaetano was born in Worcester son of the late Bartholomew and Ann (Palmieri) Corio and lived here all his life. He was a graduate of Commerce High School. Guy served his nation proudly first in the United States Army, and also the Air Force. He served in Algiers, Egypt, and Cairo during WW11. In 1944 he was stationed in England and served in the Invasion of France. In 1945 he was honorably discharged and worked for the U. S. Government as a Technician at Orly Field in France. From 1948 to 1976 he served in the Air Force Reserves as a 1st Sargent. He was recalled to the Army to active duty during the Korean War and then again during the Cuban Crisis where he served 90 days in Alaska. He was the recipient of Several Medals and Campaign Ribbons. He retired from active duty in 1983. Guy was a car salesman for most of his life. He started at Butler Chevrolet and worked at other local dealerships before he retired from Sears automotive. He enjoyed being active in the community through developing and producing two local TV shows, Bingo and country line dancing. He also operated the original Casino Nights for local venues. At one time he owned and operated Mr. C's Ice Cream Shop. As an avid sports fan, he and Mary spent many days rooting for New England teams. Gaetano was a quite and kind hearted man who loved being surrounded by his family and friends. He will be deeply missed! He was a long time member of the Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann, The Post #201 East Side American Legion, The Disabled American Veterans and the Knights of Columbus. Guy's funeral will be held Thursday from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. with a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00AM in the church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann 24 Mulberry St. Calling hours in the funeral home will be held on Wednesday from 4PM to 7PM. Interment with his wife will be in St. Johns Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Veteran's Shelter 69 Grove Street Worcester, MA. 01605.
