Mary A. (Marchese) Corio, 86, of Worcester died peacefully Monday May 12, 2014 in St. Vincent's Hospital after a brief illness surrounded by her loving family. Mary is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Gaetano "Guy" Corio, her loving daughters; Cheryl Monopoli and Denyse Corio both of Worcester and Debra Gauvin and her husband Robert of Dudley. Mary was the doting grandmother to Shelley, Christina, Michael, and Grace, and great grandmother to Chrystyanna. She also leaves many nephews and nieces. Mary was predeceased by three brothers; Samuel, Harry, and Frank Marchese, and three sisters; Flora Leahy, Eleanor Martello, and Kay Monfreda. Mary was born in Worcester daughter of the late Angelo and Grace (Bruno) Marchese and lived here all her life. She worked as a seamstress at the Worcester Yarn and Slitting Company for many years before she retired. Mary loved being a homemaker, raising her family and watching her grandchildren. She was a life member of the Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann, and was a long time member of the Beato'Angelo Womens Society. Mary and Guy loved to travel and had a large group of friends that they went on several cruises with. As the Matriarch of the family,every holiday her home was open to all to enjoy traditional Italian meals. She loved to cook, bake, dance and entertain people, and enjoyed a good day at the Casino! However her most treasured times were those spent with her family. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Her family would like to thank the entire staff in the Pulmonary ICU at St. Vincents Hospital for their kindness and compassion shown to Mary and her family. Mary's funeral will be held Thursday from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00AM in the Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann 24 Mulberry St. Calling hours in the funeral home will be from 4:00PM to 7:00PM on Wednesday. Interment will be in St. Johns Cemetery.
