Mildred M. "Auntie Honey" (DeMaria) Swett, 79 of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at UMASS Medical Center surrounded by her devoted family. Mildred's husband of twenty-seven years, Howard H. Swett, Jr. passed away on November 9, 1991. She is survived by two sons, Howard H. Swett, III and his girlfriend Clarissa M. Peltier of Southbridge and Richard W. Swett of Brimfield; a daughter, Debra L. Northway and her husband Donald of Worcester; a daughter-in-law, Cynthia B. Swett of Sturbridge; a brother, Patsy DeMaria of West Boylston; three sisters, Catherine Sbrogna of Shrewsbury, Michelina Bombard of South Carolina and Mary Sargentelli of Connecticut; nine grandchildren, Gabriel, Alicia, Howard, Corey, Heather, Amber, Jared, Kaitlyn and Brianna; five great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by two brothers, Joseph and Michael DeMaria; three sisters, Antoinette Ramsey, Elizabeth Aubain and Lucy Breault. Mildred was born in Worcester, a daughter of the late Frank and Margherite (Lopriore) DeMaria. She graduated from Shrewsbury Schools and has lived here all her life. Mildred worked for Vellumoid, Inc for many years. She was a member of St. Anne's Church and a member of the Women of the Moose where she served as the Deputy Grand Regent for the State of Massachusetts. Her family will remember Mildred as a great story teller and for being known as the "Cookie Lady." A period of calling hours will be held on Monday, May 12th from 5-8 p.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester and again on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 from 9:15-10:15 a.m. before departing for her funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury. Burial at Mountain View Cemetery will be held privately at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Mildred can be made to: Moosehaven, 1701 Park Ave., Orange Park, FL. 32073.
