WORCESTER - Joseph R. Sama , 85 of Worcester, MA died Wednesday, May 7th at home surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Louise M. (Nasitano) Sama, his four sons, Dr. Ralph Sama and his wilfe Phyllis of Shrewsbury, Joseph Sama and his wife Cynthia of Worcester, Stephen Sama and his wife Carol of Windsor, CT, and Robert Sama and his wife Mary of Ayer, his seven cherished grandchildren: David, Kristen, Benjamin, Katherine, Elizabeth, Emily ,Mark, and many nieces and nephews. He was born in Worcester, the son of Raffaele and Carmela (Madarena) Sama. A graduate of Classical High School, he owned and operated the former Eastern Paint and Body Supply Company and later continued as a manager at General Automotive Supply Company until his retirement in 1999. He was pre-deceased by his four siblings: Frank Sama, Leonard Sama, Maria Iannotti and Rose Colicchio. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, an active and auxiliary member of the Legion of Mary, UNICO, the ITAM Club and the Biscegliese Men's Society. He enjoyed every moment spent with his family. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at the Dialysis Unit of St. Vincent Hospital for their many years of excellent care and service and also special thanks to the Jewish Healthcare Hospice for the comfort provided in his final days at home. His funeral will be held Saturday, May 10th from the Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, MA with at Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry Street, Worcester, MA. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetary. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, May 9th at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Visitation House in Worcester or to a charity of one's choice.
