Dr. Jerome L. Fielding, 82 of Worcester, died on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Jewish Healthcare Center. Dr. Fielding was born in Worcester, the son of the late Dr. H. Milton Fielding and Sadye (Handleman) Fielding and lived here most of his life. He graduated from Classical High School in Worcester. Dr. Fielding received his undergraduate education at Tufts College where he received his bachelor's degree in 1953 later receiving his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in 1957. He subsequently served his internship and residency in family practice at the former Worcester City Hospital. Dr. Fielding was a family practitioner in Worcester for almost thirty-two years. He served on the Staff of Worcester City Hospital, the University of Massachusetts Medical Center as well as Fairlawn Hospital, Hahnemann Hospital, Memorial Hospital and St. Vincent's Hospital for many years before his retirement in 1991. For many years, Dr. Fielding served Worcester as a Medical Examiner having received appointments from numerous governors. He also served as a Medical Examiner for the State of Rhode Island for a period of time. Dr. Fielding worked for several years as a school physician for the City of Worcester and towards the end of his career he worked for the State Prison System. Dr. Fielding served his country in the United States Navy Reserve from 1949-1956and for the Massachusetts Army National Guard as Captain Medical Officer from 1958-1963. Dr. Fielding was a lover of the outdoors, was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener. Dr. Fielding leaves his loving sons, Jonathan Fielding and his wife Jennifer of Princeton and Michael Fielding of West Hartford, CT; his granddaughter, Erin Baffuto and her husband Christopher of Worcester; his great grandson, Jaxon Baffuto of Worcester; several cousins. He is predeceased by his sister, Linda Fielding. Services for Dr. Fielding will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.
