John W. Entwistle, 84, of Worcester died peacefully Tuesday April 22, 2014 at home with his family. John leaves his wife of 60 years Antoinette (DiBaro) Entwistle; four sons, John M. Entwistle and his wife Paula of Shrewsbury, William Entwistle of Worcester, Michael P. Entwistle and his wife Donna of Sterling, and Ronald J. Entwistle and his wife Dina of Holden, and a brother James Entwistle of Worcester. John also leaves his seven grandchildren, Angela, Amanda, Matthew, David, Christina, Caitlin, and Jillian, and also great-grandfather to Patrick, Jonathan and Lilliana. He also leaves many nephews and nieces, and a close friend Karen Quist. John was predeceased by two brothers Robert and Bernard Entwistle, and three sisters Lillian Cournoyer, Evelyn Moody, and Phyllis Bisceglia. John was born in Worcester son of the late James and Nellie (Duxbury) Entwistle. He was a graduate of South High School. Upon graduating from High School John enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Korean War. He received the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, and the Combat Infantry Badge , the United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. Upon returning home John became a member of the Local #4 Heavy Equipment Operators Union where he worked for many years. He also worked for the A.J. Mattress Construction Company for many years before he retired. John enjoyed watching NASCAR racing, and the Red Sox. He had a special affection for Horses which he owned in his younger days. However his most treasured times where those spent with his family, especially the grand and great grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. John was a long time member of the Korean War Memorial Committee, and several American Legion Posts, along with his membership with the Local # 4 Union. Calling hours will be held at MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester on Thursday, April 24 from 4-7 PM. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday April 25, at 10:00AM in the Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann, 24 Mulberry St. Burial will be in St. Johns Cemetery.
