He graduated St. Rita's School for the Deaf in Ohio, and went on to earn his B.A. in English from Gallaudet University. He also attended George Washington University Law. He has lived in MA over 20 years. Jim is survived by the love of his life, Susan R. Philip, with whom he has been with over 15 years; his mother, Eileen (Sullivan) Flynn, of Philadelphia, PA; his children, EllaMarie, MacJames, and Mauvereen O Flynn, all of Takoma Park, MD; his siblings Eileen Flynn, of Alexandria, VA, Claire Flynn, of Long Island, NY, David Flynn, of Rochester, NY, Catherine (Flynn) Cody, of Loveland, OH, and Edward Flynn, William Flynn, and Anne Marie (Flynn) Ellinger, all of Philadelphia, PA; his grandchildren, Andie and Nico Fagone, whom he adored, and many nieces and nephews, including Jessica Meehan, and Jim's Blue Brother, Jonah Meehan. Jim spent 20 years as an employee of the federal government, initially within the United States Postal Service, and ending within the IRS as an audit clerk. Jim was always active in the community, playing sports and serving on the student body government in both HS and college, as well as being a Union Representative for his fellow federal employees, and a voice for those unheard. Family and friends were very important to him, and he valued spending time with them, especially around a bonfire. He had very specific ideas about most topics, and would debate them steadfastly. He was an all-around handyman, always tinkering, upgrading, and sometimes even demolishing and rebuilding anything he could get his hands on. He loved watching old black-and-white movies, the history channel, and of course, all Philadelphia sports teams. He absolutely loved sweets.
