Helen C. (Karlon) Masiello, 97 of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 31, 2014 at Shrewsbury Crossing surrounded by her loving family. Helen was born in Palmer, a daughter of the late Martin and Christina (Grigis) Karlon. She grew up in Palmer and graduated from Palmer Schools. Helen eventually moved to Worcester where she met her beloved husband of seventy-six years, the late Dr. Carlo A. Masiello. Helen worked for The State of Massachusetts at Worcester State Hospital in the payroll and personnel department as an administrative assistant for twenty years before her retirement in 1984. Helen's husband of seventy-six years, Dr. Carlo A. Masiello passed away on June 16, 2013. She is survived by the family she treasured, daughter and son in law, Carole and Richard Costello of Shrewsbury; grandchildren, Carla Smith and her husband Scott of Worcester, Brian Costello and his wife Amanda of Shrewsbury; five great grandchildren, Matthew and Michael Troiano, Putnam Emerson Costello, Scott and Sean Smith; a sister, Anne Kibrick of Newton; several nieces, nephews and extended family. Helen is predeceased by her two brothers, Martin and Hank Karlon. Helen was a member of the former St. Margaret Mary's Church where she was very involved in the church committee and the women's guild. She was also a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Helen was an avid painting who enjoyed her home in Marshfield along the beach. She enjoyed reading and Sunday family dinners. Helen's funeral will be held on Friday, April 4, 2014 from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. 24 Mulberry St. Friends and relatives may visit with the family from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday morning in the funeral home prior to her Mass.
