James N. "Jimmy" Beando. 73. of Worcester a retired Lieutenant with the Worcester County Deputy Sherriff's Office passed away peacefully Monday, March 31st 2014 after a period of declining health. Jimmy was born in Worcester a son of the Anthony and Nancy (Ginese) Beando. He graduated from Worcester boy's trade, joined the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War serving in France and has lived here all his life. James began his career with the Sherriff's department in 1970 as a corrections officer rising through the ranks retiring as a lieutenant in 1998 after 28 years of service. James previously worked for the St Pierre Chain Company in Worcester. He is survived by his wife, Lynne R. (Steiman) Beando; a brother, Anthony Beando and his wife Deborah of Worcester; a sister, Barbara Bentz, and her husband Edward of Rutland; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A nephew Dale Beando pre deceased him. Jim was a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church. An avid Harley Davidson motorcycle enthusiast, he co-founded with friends the Blue Knights Motorcycle club in Worcester. Jimmy was also a member of the international brotherhood of corrections officers union, and over his years of service received many letters of commendation from the Sheriff. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Thursday, April 3rd from the 9:00 am to 10:30 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAEPL., 370 Plantation St. His funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 am in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. Entombment with Military Honors will follow in St John Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Blaire House Rehabilitation Center, Houghton Street Worcester or the Central Mass Veterans Inc., 60 Grove Street Worcester.
