Marianna J. (Laganelli) Calcagni, 96, of Worcester, passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2014, in her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank X. Calcagni, in 1977. She is survived by her son, Louis J. "Butch" Calcagni and his wife Donna, with whom she lived for over forty years; her daughter, Marie A. Gurnick and her husband Joseph of Miami; seven grandchildren, Scott Calcagni and his wife Lisa, Jeff Calcagni, Jason Calcagni and his wife Maria, Jean Marie Gurnick, Joseph Gurnick and his wife Lisa, Jennifer Anderson and her husband Sean, and Jonathan Gurnick; eleven great grandchildren, Tirzah, Madison, Abigail, Logan, Zara, Zachary, Jordyn, Jayden, Noah, Nathaniel and Markus; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two great grandchildren, Scott and Sydni; she was also predeceased by two brothers and a sister, Ralph and Bart Laganelli and Lena Desimone. Born in Worcester, daughter of the late Ignazio and Maria (Maggiora) Laganelli, she has lived in Worcester all her life. Marianna worked as a seamstress for many years at several companies and local institutions, most recently retiring, at the age of eighty-four, from Saint Vincent Hospital. She was a member of Our Lady of Loreto Church, the Golden Years Club at Mount Carmel and enjoyed "The wonder of it all" She loved the beach, reading, cooking and spending time with family. She was known as "Gram" to everyone that knew her, family and friend alike. She found great joy in the closeness that a family can share and would revel in the special times she shared with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be remembered for her loving kindness and gentle, easy smile. Calling Hours and Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, April 3, with Calling Hours from 8:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester; followed by a funeral procession to Our Lady of Loreto Church, 33 Massasoit Road, where Mass will be celebrated by her nephew, Father Nicholas Desimone at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Saint John's Cemetery, Worcester.
