Elmer "Sam" Sjosten, 87, of Worcester, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2014, in Saint Vincent Hospital, with family members by his side. Sam was predeceased by his wife Lucy (Potenti) Sjosten in 1984 and then by his second wife, Beverly B. (Loyd) Sjosten in 2005. Sam is survived by his daughter, Donna Marie Sjosten, with whom he lived; his son, Bradley P. Sjosten of Auburn and his companion Maureen Bowler; two step-sons, Paul Brown of Vero Beach, FL and Lance Brown of Worcester; two step-daughters, Linda Letsky and her husband Peter of Rutland and Amy Russo and her husband Will of Worcester; five grandchildren, Kristine Sjosten and her companion Anthony Bianculli, Erica Clukies and her husband Matt, Bradley Sjosten, Jr. and his wife April, Jennefer Skeehan and her husband Michael and Robert Riendeau; eight great grandchildren, Steven, Kelsey, Lucy, Ella, Chloe, Camryn, Sophia and Noelle ; his brother in law, Fred Potenti of Worcester; family friend, Natalie Moore of Worcester; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister and four brothers, Mildred Lammi, Leonard Sjosten, Edwin Sjosten, Arthur Sjosten and Thure Sjosten. He was born in Worcester, son of the late Andrew and Annie (Johnson) Sjosten, and has lived here all his life. Sam was a mechanic for J.J. Nissen Baking Company for over thirty years, before he retired in 1986. He had also worked as a bartender for many years, for his brother in law, at The Four Seasons Restaurant. He was a member of Our Lady of Loreto Church and the Teamsters, Local 170. Sam loved his family and will be remembered fondly. Calling hours for Sam, will be held on Friday, March 28, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. His Funeral will be held on Saturday, March 29, departing from the funeral home with a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Loreto Church, 33 Massasoit Road, Worcester. Interment will follow in Saint John's Cemetery, Worcester.
