Maria B. "Peggy" (Belculfine) McMahon, 100, of Millbury, formerly of Shrewsbury and Worcester, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2014, in Millbury Healthcare, surrounded by her loving family. She married her love, William F. "Biddy" McMahon, shortly after he returned from the 1936 Olympics in Germany, where he was a marathon runner. They remained in love until his death in February 1991. Maria is survived by their only child, William F. Jr. and his wife Mary Lou (Plotczik) McMahon; her three grandsons, Patrick W. McMahon and his companion Dawn of Danville, NH, Scott C. McMahon and his wife Lisa of Great Meadows, NJ, and Brian J. McMahon and his wife Barbara of Rutland; four great grandchildren, Gavin, Emily, Andrea and Shannon; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters, Frank, Louis and John Belculfine, Congetta Fulginiti and Philomena Schiavone. Maria was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Giuseppe and Angelina (Marotta) Belculfine. She graduated from Worcester Girl's Trade in 1932, where she had been the Captain of the school's basketball team. She was employed as a bridal seamstress with the Richard Healy Company, for many years, until the company closed. She later worked at Worcester State Hospital, where she was a seamstress. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. She was a woman centered around her family. She was a caregiver to many in her family. She will be remembered as fun loving, and faithfully devoted to family and friends. Calling Hours and Funeral will be held on Monday, March 24. Calling hours will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. in Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, followed by a procession to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1290 Grafton Street, Worcester, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Alzheimer's Unit at Millbury Healthcare Center, 312 Millbury Ave, Millbury, MA 01527 or to the charity of the donors choice.
