On March 16, 2014, Lucy Smith's 104 Year Journey on Earth has peacefully come to an end at the UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester after a brief period of declining health. Her loving family was by her side. Cry for Lucy - But not Too Often. Miss Her - But not for Too Long. Remember how much Lucy Loved all of us, But most of all when You Think of Lucy Remember all the Good Times You had Together. Miss Her - But let her Go. Lucy's Journey will now take her Home to be with the Lord and her beloved husband of 55 years Carl A. Smith, her parents William and Laura Lesperance, a grandson Paul Smith, her siblings Anna Lamarche, Florida Bazin. Alice Canzano-Remillard and many other family members and friends. Lucy leaves her 2 daughters, Shirley Abbruzzese and her husband William of Westboro, Beverley Gauthier and her husband Reggie of Millbury, and a son Bruce Smith and his wife Joan of Florida. Also 6 grandchildren, Gregory Gauthier of Millbury, Brian Smith of Worcester, Darryl Smith, Kim Long, Lisa Lowry, and Desiree Swank all of Florida as well as fourteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Lucy was a resident of Seabury Heights in Worcester for 25 years and in 2011, at the age of 101, she was honored by Seabury Heights as being their oldest resident. She recently resided at The Christopher House in Worcester and at the age of 104 was considered their oldest resident. Lucy was born January 10, 1910 in Worcester and has lived here all her life. She was a parishioner of the former Ascension Church on Vernon Street in Worcester for 40 years before its closing a few years ago. Lucy retired from the Hahnemann Hospital Housekeeping Department and the former Ellms Tourist Home both of Worcester many years ago. Lucy loved being with her Family. She kept herself "Young" by walking, reading and doing all kinds of puzzles. Her favorite past time was playing Bingo and visiting the Casinos. For many years she enjoyed crocheting and knitting gifts for her family and friends. A special "Thank You" to the Nurses and Doctors at the UMass Memorial Medical Center's Surgical ICU unit in Worcester for the kindness and compassion they gave to Lucy as she neared the end of her journey, and to her family as we said farewell to our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Also, "Thank You" to everyone at The Christopher House in Worcester for taking such good care of Lucy.
