Janet "Jan" I. (McConnell) Lucia, 82, of Boylston, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2014, in Saint Vincent Hospital. Jan is survived by her husband of sixty-two years, Richard P. Lucia, Sr.; three sons, Richard Paul Lucia, Jr. of Carlstadt, NJ, Glen Lucia of Boylston and Kevin S. Lucia of Middletown, NJ; a brother, Jere McConnell of Blue Ridge, GA; nine grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Mark Lucia of Buford, Georgia, in October 2012. Jan was born in Louisville, Kentucky, daughter of the late Leonard and Iola (Parks) McConnell. She graduated from North High School in Worcester, and later married and settled in Boylston, where she and Richard have resided for nearly sixty years. She worked as a cook for many years in the cafeteria at Tahanto Regional High School and had also worked as an activities director at Shrewsbury Nursing Home. She enjoyed flowers, reading and spending time with her family. Calling Hours for Jan will be on Thursday, March 13, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., and again on Friday morning from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Her Funeral will be on Friday, March 14, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Boylston. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to your favorite charity.
