Sophie M. (Conti) Palmieri,97, of Worcester died peacefully Friday March 7, 2014 surrounded by her loving family in the Shrewsbury Nursing Home. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 69 years Stephen A. Palmieri Sr. in 2008. Sophie leaves her loving family; three sons. Stephen A. Palmieri Jr. and his wife Eleanor of Grafton, Robert Palmieri of Worcester, and Worcester City Councilor Philip P. Palmieri and his wife Maria of Worcester. Sophie was the loving and doting Grandmother to Stephen, Cheryl, Elise and Alexandra, and Great Grandmother to Alyssa, Madison,and Matthew, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother James Conti, and two sisters, Phyllis Carino, and Mary Marzo. Sophie was born in Worcester daughter of the late Charles and Josephine (Marchese) Conti and lived here all her life. While being the traditional Italian Mother that she was while raising her family with her husband she worked as a Seamstress for the Steven Sportswear Company for many years. Sophie was a lovely lady with a large extended family that she was dedicated to. She was a devout Catholic and practiced her faith everyday by the way she lived and cared about people. She instilled her faith and strong work ethic and importance of a good education to her son's and all of her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. Sophie loved being part of the Worcester community and especially her East Side Shrewsbury Street neighborhood. She helped her husband many years ago when the boys were young at the Joe Dimaggio Little League.Sophie instilled in her family to always be respectful to others. She was a life time member of the Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann and its Golden years Club. She was also a member of the Beato Angelo Womens Society. Sophie loved to cook, and enjoyed traveling, especially to Italy with her friends.However her most treasured times were those spent with her family! She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. The family would also like to thank the entire staff of the Shrewsbury Nursing Home for their kindness and compassion shown to Sophie and her family. Sophie's funeral will be held on Tuesday March 11 from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St.with a Mass of Christian burial at 11:30 AM in the Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann 24 Mulberry St. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4:00PM to 7:00PM. Interment with her Husband will be in St. Johns Cemetery.
