Jeannie (Perkins) Roberson, 82, of Dorchester, formerly of Worcester, passed away on Monday, February 24, 2014, in Cedar Hill Nursing Home in Randolph. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Roberson, Jr. in 1952. Jeannie is survived by her loving daughter, Wanda L. Smith and her husband Maurice of Dorchester; her granddaughter, Monique J. Smith of Dorchester; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers and five sisters, Walter and Edward Perkins, Elizabeth Williams, Rebecca Hazzard, Sally Batts, Laura Todd and Dorothy Harris. Jeannie was born and raised in Worcester; daughter of the late Henry Perkins, Jr. and his wife Sallie (Brevard) Perkins. Jeannie graduated from high school in Worcester and then from La Newton School of Beauty Culture in Boston. She later graduated from barbering school in the Worcester area. She operated Jeannie's Beauty Shop on Belmont Street for many years, and was also a hairdresser for Mercadante Funeral Home. She was a member of Belmont A.M.E. Zion Church. She served on the Board of Trustees, the church choir, and was active in the Second Chance Ministry. Calling Hours and Funeral Services will be on Monday morning, March 3, at MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Calling hours will be from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. with the Funeral starting at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Hope Cemetery, Worcester.
