Edward V. "Sonny" Viscosi, 80, of North Grafton formerly of Worcester, a proud father, grandfather and friend passed away Thursday, February 13th surrounded by family. Sonny was born in Worcester one of three children of Italian immigrants Cosimo and Rose (DeChiaro) Viscosi. As a young man and member of the "Greatest Generation" he graduated from Commerce high and joined the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict serving his country proudly aboard The USS McNair. Edward worked as a machinist for the Jamesbury Corporation for 30 years before retiring in 1996. Sonny is survived by the family he loved so much; his two devoted daughters that were his world, Deborah J. Hobby and her husband Tom of Leicester, Patricia A. Sheehan and her husband Walter of Oxford; a grandson he cherished, Thaddeus P. "Teddy" Skowronski III of Oxford; His former wife, and friend Shirley Viscosi; brother in law, and good friend Remus Rossetti ; Many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Besides his parents, Sonny was pre deceased by his brother, Carmen Viscosi, sister, Antoinette Rossetti and sister in law, Lisa Viscosi. Edward was a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, the Eastside Post 201 American Legion, its Morning Coffee Club and breakfast committee. He was a 3rd degree member of the Pope John Council Knights of Columbus and longtime devotee of the San Vitaliano Society. A simple family man that devoted his entire life to helping whomever needed it. He idealized his Italian Heritage, and his roots in San Vitaliano Italy. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family, Sunday, February 16th from 3 pm to 6 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL; 370 Plantation St. Members of the Eastside Post 201 will meet at 5:30 pm in the funeral home to conduct their ritual. His funeral will be held Monday, February 17th from the funeral home with a procession to Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St where his funeral will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Private burial in the St John's Cemetery family plot will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his name can be made to the Auburn Life Care Center, 14 Masonic Circle, Auburn Mass. who provided such excellent care, comfort and compassion during a very difficult time.
