Alfred Joseph Errede Sr. "Al", "Freddie" 90, died peacefully Thursday, February 13th with his beloved wife of 64 years, Arcangela "Clara" (D"Ostuni) Errede and son Al Jr. by his side. He was born in Worcester on June 22, 1923 to Rose (Mantino) Errede and Felix Errede. He grew up in Worcester and raised his family there, and moved to Shrewsbury in 1979 where he and Clara enjoyed 35 wonderful years. He was a member of St. Anne's parish in Shrewsbury and Our Lady of Lourdes parish in Worcester. Freddie was a proud World War ll veteran, serving his country in the Army in the European theater. After returning from the war, he worked as a mechanic for many years, with a long tenure at the former Lawless Cadillac before moving to the United States Postal Service in Worcester where he worked until his retirement. He had a passion and talent for cooking and gardening. As recently as New Year's Eve the family dined on delicious homemade pasta that Freddie made with his daughters and granddaughters. Every spring he and Al would plant vegetables and flowers throughout the gardens that cover much of the backyard at 7 Robin Road. Family, friends and neighbors enjoyed the wide variety of vegetables year after year. It was a ritual on the first warm spring day to sit and sort through the seeds and plants and choose the perfect variety with the family dog Hunter following Freddie around. He and Clara loved to dance and attended the weekly dances at the Froshinn Club in Shrewsbury for many years. They were the first on the floor at a family wedding 6 years ago and showed everyone that being in their eighties did not slow them down! They recently danced again at the Autumn Ball at Shrewsbury Nursing Center and had a wonderful time. Freddie also loved the beach. He and Clara spent many winters in Florida enjoying the warm weather and all the activities first in Vero Beach with his brother, sister, and brother in law, and later in Fort Myers enjoying time with Diana and Bill and Patty and her family. Freddie and Clara also had a special place in their hearts for Cape Cod, where they spent many vacations with Al, Robin and the girls.
