William A. Zollo, 69 of Cherry Valley, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle passed away surrounded by his adoring family on Friday, February 7, 2014 in Beaumont Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Center. Bill fought a valiant battle against prostate cancer. Bill was born on April 8, 1944 in Worcester, Massachusetts and was preceded in death by his father Anthony A. Zollo and his mother Mary P. (D'Alonzo) Zollo. He was a graduate of the Worcester Boys Trade School. After high school he enlisted in the United States Army, where he honorably served his country. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Susan (Sprunger) Zollo; two sons, Jan R. Horn of Holden and Matthew W. Zollo of New York City; a daughter, Mary E. Zollo; a special niece, Katherine M. Peters of Leicester; a brother, Robert T. Zollo and his wife Gina of Worcester; a sister, Barbara A. McGrail and her husband James of Spencer; his adored grandchildren, Hanna, Anton and Ella Horn; Zakariah A. Peters; Rachael Bottone and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by a brother, Anthony A. Zollo, Jr. and a sister, Marie Peters. After graduating from Worcester Trade and a short stint working as a talented carpenter, Bill learned the trade of Newspaper Pressman for the Worcester Telegram and Gazette and worked for the company until his retirement in 2006. Bill was a very talented man whose thirst for knowledge and skill lead him to many hobbies. His much loved hobby of fishing brought him a lot of joy on the beaches of the Cape, Rhode Island and on the many lakes in Massachusetts. Bill and Susan's home is decorated with the photographs, paintings and drawings that he created. He loved music as well, teaching himself to play the guitar, clarinet and accordion. He enjoyed singing with the Retired Men's Club of Greendale Chorus and the Our Lady of the Angel's Choir. Bill enjoyed traveling, meeting new people and exploring new cultures. He had a wonderful time on his last trip to Great Britain in May of 2013. Family, friends, and others whose lives Bill touched are invited to MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 11, 2014. His funeral will be celebrated Wednesday, February 12, 2014 from the funeral home with a procession to Our Lady of the Angel's Church, 1222 Main St., Worcester where his Mass will be held at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Leicester. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Family Center Campaign at Our Lady of the Angel's Church, 1222 Main St Worcester.
