Charles "Chuck" H. Fort, passed away peacefully from a long illness on February 1, 2014 holding the hands of his mother, Flora F. Miller and younger brother, David E. Fort. Chuck was stricken with an illness in 2006 and fought valiantly until he passed away on Saturday evening. Chuck was born on January 22, 1971 at the former Hahnemann Hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts. He was a product of Worcester Public Schools and attended North High. After graduating from high school, he joined the Job Corp in Grafton, MA. He also attended Worcester State College, Atlantic Union College and the State University of New York at Cortland. He will be deeply missed by his mother, Flora F. Miller of Worcester, MA; father, William Fort of Washington; sisters, Janice E. Bull of Worcester, MA and Deidre Fort of California; brothers, David E. Fort of Worcester, MA, William Junior Fort of Arkansas and his step-brother, Howard K. Lucas, from Coventry, CT. Chuck was predeceased by one of his brothers, Tracy Fort. He will be missed by his nieces, Monique and Janay Bull and his nephews Dominique and Kenny Bull all from Worcester, MA. In addition, Chuck will be missed by all of his aunts and cousins in Worcester, New York, Connecticut, Alabama, Tennessee, Texas and Arkansas. Lastly, Chuck made lots of friends during his 43 years with us and they will surely miss him. Chuck will always be known for his deep love of his family, nature, adventure and animals. He was extraordinarily inquisitive and was known for giving very insightful advice to all who would listen. He was an avid reader, especially when it came to history, nature and spirituality. Chuck always made those around him laugh even during the hardest times of his life. His humor, tenacity and energy will be missed by all. The Fort Family would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses, dialysis nurses, PAs, NPs, respiratory therapists, CNAs, PCAs, social workers and administrative staff members at every hospital and care facility in Central Mass and Boston that cared for Chuck, not only during his latest long term illness, but also during his first bout with illness between 1996 to 2006. The Fort Family wants to extend a special thanks to everyone that cared for Chuck at Vibra Hospital (formerly Kindred Parkview) in Leicester, MA and UMASS Memorial Health Care in Worcester, MA. Both facilities served as a dedicated supportive partner to Chuck and his family during his illness. The Fort Family would like to thank all of the family and friends who prayed for Chuck during his ordeal. They are eternally grateful to the Islamic Society of Greater Worcester for embracing Chuck and participating in his final services. Lastly, the Fort Family wants to extend a very special appreciation to Chuck's mother's church family at Mount Olive Church in Worcester for all of the love and support that they expressed to Chuck and his family during the darkest days of Chuck's illness. Final services for Chuck will be held on Friday, February 7, 2014 at MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, MA. with calling hours between 10:30 a.m. and 12:00 noon, followed by the funeral service at 12:00 noon. Following the services at the funeral home, burial will take place at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton, Ma., which is open to all.
